Second Chances
As I pull up to the barn, and get out of the truck, already I can hear the horses. Nickers
from Sissy, Socks bobbing her head, Sugar banging her door and the others waiting
patiently! Little Joe with his eyes sparkling, He doesn't just nicker, he HOLLARS!!!
I make sure they don't miss me when they pull up to feed. I am the loudest horse in the barn!!!!
Junior who now will come up for scratches and hugs. We can now put his winter blanket on without a
halter, he just stands there. The changes are many, and make it worth while.
Scooby guarding the door, watching every move, until his dinner arrives. Thunder the evil pony!
He is not adoptable, however he was put thru an auction as kid gentle. Lucky he never hurt anyone.
But he has his good points, we overlook his bad, he is a lifer.

Our People!
Volunteers play an important role in any rescue. Here is where we get a chance to tell you a little about ourselves.
DeeDee - I am a RVT in Texas. A Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in the state of Texas is one
who has passed the VTNE and state examinations. I have had or been around horses for 40 yrs.
I currently have 12 horses, Most of them you will find thru out this website. 8 of my horses
have come from auctions and sale barns.
Melissa - She is our go to person. Will always be there to lend a hand. She
currently has a gelding named Comet. She is waiting for that special rescue to come in, to add to her gang.
Tim - He is another of our go to people, Hauling hay, He shows up and cleans all the
stalls, just to help out. he is just a pleasure to have on our side. Always can count on to
jump in and help.
Bill - He will take on anything. Jumps in and does great work with the horses.
He provides most of our hard labor. Hauling hay, fixing and repairing f equipment.
But his special gift is his love and gentleness with the horses.
Thanks to all our volunteers. Sam, Lola, Claire, Mike and Cathy.

Zoey
Zoey the $50 dollar horse! When Zoey walked into the sale ring in Stephenville, There
were 3 kids piled on her, she walked around and around the ring. Turning, stopping and backing.
Her legs wobbled, every bone visible, but still she did what they wanted. But her eyes were
lifeless. When my friend won the bid on her, we were happy she was coming home. When we got her home,
she was exhausted, I wouldn't have been surprised if she wasn't with us the next morning. The vets
looked at her and said we had a long road to go, as she was past using her muscle, to stay alive and odds were
she was already into organ failure. She was truly hair covering bones. Shocked was the reaction
at the barn, the general opinion was this one is not going to make it. But Kim, Katie and
I had our gloves on and we weren't going down without a fight! Small soaked meals, lots of hours, just brushing,
talking to her - Lots of love! We would lead her out to the coastal patch and turn her loose,
she never ventured more than 10 ft, just stayed and grazed with a far off look in her eye. One day
when we led her out of the barn and turned her loose, she trotted! We all laughed! One
of my biggest regrets is we didn't take pictures of her, I don't know why we didn't, I guess we all felt
deep inside, she wasn't going to make it, and didn't want to remember her that way. To see her now!!!
She has life in her eyes! She is the BEST riding horse, But she is spunky!!
Her owner Kim, has been with her the whole time! While the pictures here are not remarkable! I
can remember sending them out to a friend who had seen her on her first day at the barn, The reply from
them was OMG Zoey has a BUTT! Yeah, she does and we are so proud of that spotted BUTT!!
She is a survivor!!!
